We went to see my oldest friend's band play tonight at the Horseshoe. She is so beautiful, the same way she was 15 years ago when we used to sing Kid Fears and Love Cats in her basement in NDG. I haven't seem them play since 1995 in a boxey bar in Montreal with the Dears. It's so nice to see them getting their dues, sounding so strong, all the cute boys lining up to pay her compliments after the show.
Her step-brother, an actor, was in the audience. He's getting lots of exposure and some national commericals. We're all sort of at that point in our artistic careers where good is happening, and we're perhaps on the verge of something sustainable. This is where I've seen people give up or go on to really big success. Is that how you spell success? heh heh.
I'm obsessed with doubt and mediocrity and concepts of luck. Lotto scratch cards in my pickets, friends who are clearly geniuses who never dare or think of imagining the big and better, away from danger or boredom. The politics of dissapearance.
How long ago was it that i read TAZ by Hakim Bay and said i want to watch these pirate islands and write it all down?
